Academic Podcasting: A Hands-on Workshop for SSGH Members

The Centre for Social Science and Global Health organizes a one-day podcast workshop on 13 March designed to showcase the research of our members in an engaging audio format. Led by professional podcast maker Sander de Heer, this workshop goes beyond interviews to help researchers transform academic work into compelling audio stories.

This workshop offers an opportunity to connect, share ideas, and strengthen our community. It also marks our first step toward creating SSGH's own podcast series - showcasing our work and giving both new and existing members a window into how Social Sciences can impact Global Health.

The day is structured in three focused sessions:

Morning Session (9:30-11:30): "Inspiration"

This session is open to everyone interested in learning more about the power of podcasts. We’ll cover the basics of storytelling, explore various podcast formats, and discuss what makes a podcast successful. You learn that podcasting is more than a recorded interview and we really try to take academics from papers to compelling stories.

Afternoon Session (13:00-15:00): "Recording"

In this hands-on session, we’ll focus on recording a compelling podcast episode. Topics will include preparation, interview techniques, script development, and creating a cohesive outline. We will also practice writing and conducting a live conversation in front of a microphone.

Session 3: Editing, Promotion, and Distribution (16:00–18:00)

In this final session we will be guided in the production process and manage publication. We’ll delve into the technical specifics of editing, discuss strategies for promoting episodes, and explore distribution channels. At the end of the day we have a clear framework to work with.)
